A conclusion to the long-running GOS sight test fee dispute is expected soon, optician has learned.

Nearly a year after it was due to commence, the profession's representatives responsible for negotiating the fee, the Optical Fees Review Committee (OFRC), are waiting for a response from the DoH.

Practitioners have not received an increase in the fee rate, due in April 2003, because the OFRC rejected the DoH's offer, saying the proposed level of funding for CET was 'wholly inadequate' (News, October 31, 2003).

The two sides have now agreed a package of 10 per cent over three years, although the OFRC will not accept it until the issue of CET ...
