Officially formed just over a year ago as a result of the acquisition by Wallenius and Wilh Wilhelmsen of a controlling stake in the former Hyundai Merchant Marine operation, South Korean-based Eukor Car Carriers is now rivalling NYK as the world's biggest operator of specialised tonnage.

The company's fleet has grown to around 78 vessels, both owned and operated, including around 30 pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) and 48 pure car carriers (PCCs).

Further expansion of the company's fleet is envisioned. According to a statement from Wilh Wilhelmsen, which has a 40% stake in Eukor: 'The company is pursuing a substantial renewal …
