Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean gave a lengthy television interview with his wife Judy Steinberg Dean at his side, as he sought to portray a softer side of himself after his rip-roaring yell in the wake of Iowa caucuses cost him support.

The ABC interview, Steinberg Dean's first on television, came after her husband, for months the clear frontrunner in the race for the Democrats' White House candidacy, struggled to regain momentum after finishing a disappointing third in Monday's caucuses.

"If I can help him, I will," Steinberg Dean said in the interview, somewhat inexperienced in front of the cameras.
