CANCER patients in Manchester are being warned that taking herbal remedies without telling their doctor could kill them. Christie Hospital is advising patients to tell their doctor about any herbal remedies and supplements they are using after new research revealed that they could have dangerous side-effects.

Alison Norman, director of nursing at the cancer centre, has warned patients being treated for leukaemia or lymphoma that taking powerful herbal remedies could be fatal. Products like echinacea, affecting the immune system, could result in a patient getting a deadly infection. The warning…
