I am writing this particular review the day after learning of the death of Johnny Cash, whom we lost to complications from diabetes, just like we lost Waylon not all that long ago. How sad it is to have these two powerful voices stilled.
As tribute albums go (they usually do not go very well, actually), this one is pretty good. At risk of sounding like a complete sexist jerk, I will question the wisdom of having two relatively weak-voiced women (Nanci Griffith and Norah Jones) sing Waylon's songs; however maybe I can partially redeem myself by pointing out that Carlene Carter does a nice job on "I've Always Been Crazy," and Allison Moorer's rendition of "Storms Never Last" is pretty good, too.
