Bad weather and barking dogs aren't the only reasons to consider joining the roughly 11 million Americans who do at least some of their walking or running indoors on a treadmill.

These motorized machines help you burn more calories than exercise bikes and are easier to use than stair climbers and ski machines. And because exercising on a treadmill is weight-bearing, it can help prevent the bone-weakening effects of osteoporosis.
