Your item "Bah Humbug: Gift Cards That Stop Giving." in the December issue, left out the best fix of all. Instead of giving a gift card that's good only where the card is accepted and only for a certain time, give a universal gift certificate. This excellent (but unadvertised) alternative is good anywhere, anytime. Available in various denominations, it is issued by the government, often bears the picture of a president, and is green in color.
