When it comes to nutrition, you're apt to hear beefs about beef, but you can limit its calories and fat by choosing wisely. Ground beef labeled 95 percent lean and leaner steaks such as top sirloin are lower in calories and fat than some other cuts and grinds, in fact, 95 percent lean ground beef has fewer calories and less fat per serving than boneless, skinless dark-meat chicken. Figures below are for 3 ounces, the USDA's serving size. Limiting yourself to that portion (about as big as a deck of cards) can be hard--another reason to eat leaner meat.
