Sildenafil enhances sexual function in young women with sexual arousal disorder, suggesting that the drug may affect women and men in similar ways, reported Dr. Salvatore Caruso and his associates of the University of Catania (Italy).
Women who took 25 or 50 mg of slidenafil (Viagra) an hour before intercourse experienced greater arousal, more frequent orgasms, and greater sexual enjoyment and satisfaction than when they took a placebo (Br. J. Obstet. Gynaecol. 108[6]:623-28, 2001).
The study included 53 women aged 22-38 years who had been diagnosed with acquired and generalized sexual arousal disorder.
Each patient was randomized to receive placebo, Z5 mg sildenafil, and 50 mg sildenafil at 4-week intervals, separated by a 1-week washout period.
