WASHINGTON -- Subcutaneous injections of mepivacaine and triamcinolone ease the intense vulvar pruritus that sometimes afflicts elderly women, Dr. Carlo Gigli said at an international symposium on women's health and menopause.
Topical therapies such as local applications of testosterone, estrogen, or corticosteroids generally aren't helpful to these patients, and symptoms have even recurred following surgical intervention in some, said Dr. Gigli, who is in private practice in Gorizia, Italy.
