Regarding "This Sewer Sweeper Wore Blue'" (THE NEW AMERICAN, December 15), I believe that the honeymoon has clouded your recollection of the marriage. I agree that Mr. Art Carney was a uniquely talented actor. However, The Honeymooners was by no means a testament to good, clean entertainment. It was violent, evil and sexist.
The Honeymooners was a show that put women in their place, namely the kitchen. If a woman spoke out about the injustice of waiting on a man hand and foot, as Audrey Meadows often did, Jackie Gleason's response was always the same.
