The net profit of 33 companies in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector was 12 percent at Rs1,317 crore during Jul-Sep 2003 (Rs1,173 crore in Jul-Sep 2002). Turnover grew by five percent to Rs9,658 crore (Rs9,215 crore).

The sector's profit before interest, depreciation and tax grew by 11 percent to Rs2,118 crore and profit before depreciation and tax, by 10 percent to Rs2,011 crore. The sector recorded 20 percent growth in other income at Rs291 crore.
