What worries Americans? Thirty-five percent cite rising health care costs. About 15 percent say they are worried about their own job security, although many more are worried about the job market in the nation. Thirty-six percent say they are worried about walking in their neighborhood after dark. About a quarter worry that they or someone in their family could become a victim of a terrorist attack. Most people are confident about their retirement security, although only a quarter expect to get what they think is owed to them from Social Security. More people today expect private savings to be a major source of their retirement income than expect Social Security to be.
