In the movie Head of State, Chris Rock plays Mays Gilliam, a Washington, D.C. alderman who unwittingly becomes the Democratic candidate for President. Party leaders choose him to replace the recently-deceased white candidate because he is guaranteed to lose, while his candidacy helps the party expand its race credentials.
