Fessing up to at least 50 years of discrimination against tens of thousands of women at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory that they manage, University of California Regents agreed in November to pay $9.7 million.

It is the largest ever settlement of a gender-discrimination lawsuit by UC, one of many recent gender suits.

The award will settle a class action discrimination lawsuit involving about 3,200 women employed at the lab since 1988, including 2,500 who still work there. They are scientists, technicians and administrative assistants who work at the nuclear weapons design facility owned by the U.S. Department of Energy.
