Every year, when the dog days of summer bite at our heels, Las Vegans ritually peel away layers of clothing to handle the heat. In fact, it gets so hot here it may not be much of a stretch to imagine man's best friend removing his fur coat if he could.

So when Dan Mathews learned singer Whitney Houston would be in town June 19 to receive an award from Black Entertainment Television, he decided it was the perfect opportunity to try to get Houston to take her fur coat off for the 100-degree weather and keep it off permanently.

"Whitney Houston's been asking for it for years," says Mathews, campaign director for . Houston, who planned to wear a fur coat to the event at the Paris resort, has been wearing fur shamelessly for years, violating PETA's belief that only animals should wear fur, he adds.
