Country singer Vince Gill broke in the newborn Cox Pavilion on Friday night with a solid set of yearning ballads, plus a few two-step numbers, that gave the 3,000-seat concert venue a promising start.
The pavilion is essentially a rectangular space that doubles as a gym, where some UNLV athletes can play basketball and volleyball. The question going into the Gill concert was, would the tall, boxy spot hold music well.
