TOKYO (CBS.MW) -- Sony's American unit announced plans late Wednesday to launch an online music service in the United States in the spring of 2004.

In a statement, Sony Corp. of America said its new Connect service will allow consumers to buy music online and download it on to Sony portable devices such as advanced Walkman players.

Sony's Connect service will charge 99 cents for downloads of songs and $9.95 for full albums. It said that half a million songs…
