It Is with great regret that we have no option but to explain and comment upon an unfortunate situation that has developed between the Mail and Hull City football club.

On New Year's Eve Hull City manager Peter Taylor told our Tigers reporter John Fieldhouse that neither he nor any of the club's players would speak to anyone from this newspaper.

Mr Taylor had taken exception to comments made in an article by Analysis on Monday writer Les Motherby in the Mail nine days previously, on December 22, after the 1-0 home defeat by Mansfield.

Since Mr Taylor's ban we have striven to maintain our coverage of the club, although this was inevitably reduced because of the denial of access to the manager and players. John explained these circumstances in an …
