Shanghai yesterday formally set up a company aimed at developing the site for the 2010 World Expo.
The move comes as the city starts to prepare for the controversial removal of thousands of residents living on the 5 sq km site on both banks of the Huangpu river.
The new firm, Shanghai World Expo Land Holding, would handle land development and operate under the local government's Shanghai World Expo Co-ordination Bureau, officials said.
