The risk for colorectal cancer is higher in women with a history of breast cancer, but that finding does not appear to influence the age at which to start colorectal cancer screening in these women, Dr. Andrejs Avots-Avotis said at the annual Digestive Disease Week.
Dr. Avots-Avotins of the Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Tex., and his colleagues evaluated the records of breast cancer and colorectal cancer patients in their clinic's tumor registry since 1976. The review looked for evidence of simultaneous occurrence of the two malignancies, age at diagnosis, and anatomic site of the colorectal cancer.
