FOUR people have been pulled alive from the rubble of Iran's devastating earthquake, rescuers said yesterday as the relief operation mobilised to prevent outbreaks of disease.
Iranian soldiers found the two men and two women late on Tuesday night after rescue workers had all but given up hope of finding more survivors from Friday's 6.6-magnitude quake.
Normally people trapped under collapsed buildings can survive three days - a deadline that expired Monday morning.
"It's a miracle,'' said Mohammad Nickam of the Health Ministry. Deputy Health Minister Mohammed Akbari said the four were in ''relatively good condition.''
Most of the foreign rescue teams have now left Iran.
Residents of the devastated city of Bam increasingly blamed the authorities for poor distribution of relief supplies.
