THE award of an MBE to a former UVF leader, has brought a protest from Sinn Fein.
Self-confessed ex-paramilitary Bobby McKee was awarded the New Year's honour for his services to local government.
But Sinn Fein yesterday attacked the awardan MBE as ''total hypocrisy''.
Now DUP Mayor of Larne, Mr McKee said that he had never denied his UVF past or a conviction for riotous behaviour.
He said his role as a councillor and work with the disabled over the past 30 years far outweighed any mistakes he had made.
He said yesterday: ''I am very humbled by this honour and I hope and believe it is for my contribution to the special needs of the disabled and others in the borough.''
