FIREFIGHTERS who rescued three men from a burning house in the early hours of New Year's Eve say the victims were lucky to escape with their lives because the property was not fitted with a smoke alarm.
The middle-aged men were downstairs when fire crews arrived and led them out of the smoke-filled building to safety, after the fire broke out in the hot-press area of the terraced Ballymena house, at around 3.20am.
One of the men was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
