Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha has left for Pakistan to attend a regional summit, calling on their rival to make their ceasefire "permanent" in divided Kashmir.

"India is interested in making this a permanent ceasefire. It is incumbent on both countries to ensure that the ceasefire holds," Sinha told reporters at the airport on Thursday.

India and Pakistan on November 26 entered an open-ended ceasefire on their borders in Kashmir, the divided province over which the countries have fought two fully-fledged wars.
