CEBU CITY, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - Cebu needs to produce more information technology professionals as demand has outstripped the manpower supply, according to Cyber-promdi past president Vince Rallon.
Large software companies such as NEC Software Philippines and bigfoot Global Solutions Inc. are suckling up Cebu's "best" IT human resources, Rallon said.
"These large companies are hiring the cream of the crop. What's left for the smaller ones are thsoe not really that qualified to work as IT professionals," he said.
Aboitizland chief operating officer Andonio Aboitiz said Cebu needs to address this problem if it wants to become an IT hub.
"We need to have better technical training for our human resources. IT also means affordable real estate to encourage investors to come to the country," Aboitiz said.
He added that in India, there is a department of IT which looks solely at the growth of the industry all over the country.
In the Philippines, an IT and E-Commerce Council was formed during the Estrada administration, but Aboitiz said it needs to better coordinate the efforts to develop the country's IT industry.
