MUSCAT, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - Ahmed bin Abdul-Nabi Macki, Minister of National Economy and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council and general supervisor of the general Census of Population, houses and establishments has said the Sultanate's population is 2,331,391, of which 1,779,318 are Omanis and 552,073 are expatriates.
Macki added in a press conference that the number of houses in Oman is currently 413,406, while there are 327,864 families.
He said the population increased by 296,092 people in comparison with the results of the 1993 census.
He added that the number of the population in Muscat Governorate is 631,031, or 27,1 per cent of the total population, noting that of this figure 380,092 are Omanis and 250,939 are expatriates (60.2 per cent and 39.8 per cent of the total population, respectively).
The population of the Batinah region is 652,667 (28 per cent of the total population), of whom 563,833 are Omanis (86.4 per cent of total population) and 88,834 are expatriates, he said.
The population of Musandam Governorate is 28,263, of whom 20,380 are Omanis and 7,883 are expatriates (72.1 per cent and 27.9 per cent of total population consecutively), the Minister noted.
He added the population of the Dhahirah region are 204,250, of whom 147,974 are Omanis and 56,276 are expatriates (72.447 per cent and 27.552 per cent of the Governorate total population).
