THE STAR

- Despite some late attempts at window-dressing, the KLSE Composite Index (CI) ended 2003 a few points shy of the psychologically significant 800-point mark. For 2003 as a whole, however, the market did perform reasonably well in a year filled with shocks and uncertainty.

- Automotive industry players heaved a sign of relief and applauded the governments timely release of details on import taxes, but felt there was need for further clarification.

- The Australian dollar is set to build on last years bumper 34 per cent gain on the US dollar in the first half of 2004, looking to breach the 80 US-cent barrier as positive fundamentals remain intact.
