SINGAPORE, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - A free-trade agreement between Singapore and the United States is set to come into effect Thursday, according to the Singaporean Ministry of Trade.
The agreement, the United States' first with an Asian state, is expected to kick off a sweeping liberalization of trade in goods and services and enhance the protection of intellectual property rights.
Both nations have completed the legal and administrative requirements for implementing the accord, signed in May between U.S. President George W. Bush and Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, the ministry said in a statement.
