Unions reacted angrily today to suggestions in the Budget of regional pay rates for public sector workers - with one leader warning it could lead to a national strike.
Jack Dromey, a national official of the Transport and General Workers' Union, said any move by local government employers to end national pay bargaining would "inevitably" lead to a strike by a million council workers.
