BAGUIO CITY-Eight graduating cadets of the Philippine Military Academy won a 20-day injunction on Monday against a series of PMA investigations that they claimed had "violated their civil rights."
Judge Clarence Villanueva of the regional trial court here froze an ongoing PMA investigation of a minor cheating incident that implicated the cadets in September.
First Class Cadets Eddyson Abanilla, Bernardo Huerte, Jerome Lozada, Eugene Mojar, Jonathan Serote, Jay Tarriela, Jimmy Oliver Vingno and Euphraim Jayson Diciano said they were forced to undergo two independent probes, which denied them access to their lawyers.
Lawyer Abelardo Estrada, the cadets' chief counsel, said last week that the cadets should have unhampered access to their civil rights, despite their status as military personnel.
But PMA officials see the suit as an attack on the institution's "honor code."
