LUCENA CITY-The dangers imposed by firecrackers were borne out in Lucena City yesterday after a noon fire killed 15 people, their bodies charred beyond recognition, caused 22 others to go missing and destroyed millions of pesos in property.
Lucena City police Chief Supt. Edgar Layon did not identify the victims whose remains were being dug out of the debris at press time.
More burned bodies were believed to be buried under the rubble. Three persons were rushed to hospital.
Six commercial building were totally burned, Layon said.
The three-hour blaze started in the rows of stores along Juarez St. near the city market.
Destroyed by the fire were several retail establishments located along Merchan and Juarez Streets.
