BAGUIO CITY-The administration party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats has started fortifying its provincial, city and municipal slates after discovering that the confusion over the opposition standard-bearer had also split the opposition down to the grassroots.
Baguio Rep. Mauricio Domogan, Lakas Cordillera coordinator, said party members in the provinces have been mobilized after First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo announced to them on Saturday at the presidential Mansion that Sen. Noli de Castro will be the party's vice presidential candidate.
De Castro announced his candidacy on Monday.
Arroyo met with Lakas leaders here a day after President Macapagal-Arroyo declared in Dagupan City that she was skipping her annual Baguio holiday vacation.
Lawyer Edgar Avila, Cordillera coordinator for the Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and erstwhile Lakas member, said the candidacy of Sen. Panfilo Lacson and actor Fernando Poe Jr. forced local political aspirants to slow down their campaign work.
