IN AN unprecedented move, Iraq, a country in the process of rebuilding following a devastating war, confirmed its attendance in the 22nd Asian Boxing First Olympic qualifying slated on Jan. 10-18 at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum.
Abap President Manny Lopez welcomed Iraq's entry to the blockbuster event which features Asia's leading amateur boxers, who will vie for 24 berths for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
''Indeed, sports is a bridge toward normalcy, friendship and future cooperation among the various countries in the world. In behalf of the organizers and Abap, I would like to welcome the Iraqi national boxing team in the qualifying,'' said Lopez.
