CONCERNED about the increase in injuries during the New Year's Eve celebration, the Department of Health could only hope that the cases this year would not surpass those of last year's.
This developed as Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit announced that the injuries due to firecrackers and stray bullets have reached 200 as of 7 a.m. yesterday, almost 40 percent higher than the 122 during the same period last year.
Dayrit attributed the increase in injuries to the proliferation of "low quality, cheap firecrackers." He said that the retail sale of firecrackers was also a factor.
