IT'S like magic," recounted engineer Cesar Yambao as he narrated how an international retreat center of the Brahma Kumaris (BK) was built "first with God's help, then with support from members of the non-government organization."
The two-story Brahma Kumaris (BK) Spiritual Learning Center that now stands on a 1,500-square meter lot at 1020 Magallanes Drive here, was built in just nine months, Yambao said.
It is said to be the first international retreat center in Asia of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University that was built outside its headquarters on Mount Abu in India. It has a meditation hall on the ground floor enough to accommodate about 200 people, and 12 guest rooms good for two each, and three dormitory-type rooms that could accommodate 10 to 15 persons each, for stay-in meditators on the second floor.
What makes the center unique is that it was built in the spirit of bayanihan (self-help) with students and friends of meditation pitching in their donations in cash and kind, including their labor, to realize their longtime vision.
"Other BK retreat centers were bought," said Sr. Becky Ortega, BK Philippines main center coordinator.
