MANILA Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales yesterday asked Filipinos to pray hard for the country this year, saying that 2004 "promises to be a crucial one" because of the presidential elections.
In his New Year message, Rosales also urged the people to remain hopeful about the year ahead and continue to entrust to God the fate of the country.
"In spite of the woes of the past year, we continue to believe in God's providence and strength. In the face of the lurking trials of the coming year, we bravely clothe ourselves with Christian hope," Rosales said.
The year 2003 proved to be a test of stability and faith for the government which faced the Oakwood mutiny, the Jose Pidal exposes and persistent bickering in government, Leyte landslides and kidnappings.
Politicians, from Malacanang to local executives, are now busy preparing for their 2004 election bids. Many have sought the blessings and endorsement of the Catholic Church.
