A jobless man broke into an upstairs neighbour's flat and then called a junk dealer to sell her electrical appliances for $400, a court heard yesterday.

Philip Poon Wai-chung, 26, pleaded guilty to theft and three charges of burglary in the building where he lived on Tin Hau Temple Road, North Point.

Poon suffered "a major depressive disorder" which drove him to commit the offences, his lawyer Judy Ma told the District Court.
