The AUSTRALIAN Aboriginal story is about not just the original culture, dispossession and government policies, but also a gradual accommodation to the Western way of life. This is one of the strands in Mary Anne Jebb's Blood, Sweat and Welfare: A History of White Bosses and Aboriginal Pastoral Workers (UWA Press), a local history of the predominantly Aboriginal North-West Kimberley region since white graziers HIS[ began moving in on the tribes a century ago.

Though dispossession is not systematically discussed, Jebb's and other interviews discussed below leave the impression that station Aborigines had no great yearning for the old pre-white way of life.
