STEPHEN BROWNE can laugh now at his first experience as a professional two years ago.

The former European Amateur Individual champion and Irish International was in South Africa and when he looked at the leaderboard on day one, among those trailing in hiswake was none other than Ernie Els!

He might have been out on the Sunshine Tour trying his luck because he didn't have a Tour card but now he couldn't help thinking: "What's all the fuss about? I'm ahead of Ernie Els. I'm going to win a million - and soon!"

Well, Browne learned there's a little more to making the grade on Tour than a couple ofgood rounds but after two years grinding away in the backwaters, he is as enthusiastic as ever …
