Two suicide attacks were made on the life of President Gen Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi. By the grace of God, the president and his entire staff are safe. Fourteen people were killed and 46 injured in both the attacks. It is believed that the attackers are also among those killed.

The explosions took place in Jhanda Chichi area, near the same bridge where President Gen Pervez Musharraf's motorcade was attacked early this month. The police and the [army] troops cordoned off the site of the explosions and diverted the traffic from that road to another direction. Talking to PTV in an interview a short while ago, President Gen Pervez Musharraf reiterated the resolve that measures against terrorism and extremism would continue:

[Unidentified correspondent] Mr President, would you give some details of the incident that took place in Rawalpindi today?

[Musharraf] Yes. This has been a very /unfortunate/, regrettable incident of terrorism. And this attack was made on me when I was going towards home after the /COMSTECH/ meeting [Organization of the Islamic Conference Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation meeting]. There is a Total gasoline station next to the bridge of the same Ammar Square where an explosion took place a few days ago, and there is another gasoline station.
