In this issue, we will spotlight New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. This state covers a very large area, but has a small population. The Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico boasts 130 to 140 active and dedicated members. Almost every member has held a local, district or state office and served in many capacities. Students are offered a wide array of MTNA and state-sponsored programs to participate in. In the early spring, the PMTNM sponsors a Performance Evaluation Program. Students prepare pieces of contrasting periods for an evaluation by an out-of-area adjudicator. This includes playing the scale of the pieces performed, and is offered for string, vocal and piano students. PMTNM also has a Scale and Theory Evaluation Program, which is being revised.
