US President George W. Bush wished Saddam Hussein "good riddance" and said the weekend capture of the former Iraqi leader had ended more than 30 years of tyranny in Iraq.

"Good riddance," Bush told reporters at a news conference when asked if he had any words for Saddam who was captured by US forces near his hometown of Tikrit on Saturday.

"The world is better off without you Mr Saddam Hussein," he said, rejecting any suggestion that the United States might negotiate with the ousted dictator and insisting that he face justice.
