Beat officers have delivered hundreds of crime-prevention packs to homes, following 58 reported burglaries in the area this year.

Police say thieves have been particularly targeting Tudor Road, Bosworth Street, Glenfield Road, Bonchurch Street and Warwick Street.

The 58 burglaries in those streets accounted for nearly half of all the break-ins in the policing area, which spans West Leicester from Braunstone through to New Parks.

Insp Ian Holloway, of Hinckley Road police station, said: "While this statistic is alarming, residents should be reassured by the fact that most of these crimes were committed by opportunist …
