Renovation of Kyoto University's historic clock tower, which symbolized the student movements of the 1960s and the '70s recently was completed.

It now houses a French restaurant and a salon-style banquet room on the first floor and a reception hall on the second floor with the exterior of the red brick building being preserved.

The clock tower, constructed in 1925, became the scene of the student demonstrations and was exposed to water and tear gas that riot police used on student activists who barricaded themselves in the tower. …
