THE MILITARY yesterday denied a report by a US-based news magazine that some 600 operatives of the Jemaah Islamiyah were still holed up in southern Philippines, saying this was an overestimate.

In its Dec. 8 issue, the Time Magazine reported that the JI maintains a wide reach in Mindanao, which is emerging as an alternative training ground to Afghanistan, noting that some 600 JI militants remained active in at least three camps.
