MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- A growing number of children are being exposed to hazardous clandestine labs that produce methamphetamine, according to a new Hazelden Foundation report on drug abuse trends.
At least 57 children were exposed to methamphetamine labs in Minnesota in 2002, compared with only 11 a year earlier. Of the 57, almost all (47) resided in a home with an operational methamphetamine lab. The health and safety of people living in proximity to methamphetaime labs are in jeopardy due to exposure to the chemical gases, fumes, and byproducts, and the risk of sudden explosions, chemical burns, and fires.
