The Schenectady County Historical Society in Schenectady, New York, will celebrate its one hundredth anniversary in 2005. Over the years it has amassed approximately sixty-five portraits and landscapes that portray the history of Schenectady County from about 1740 to 1900. The collection is not well known either inside or outside the community, and an effort is under way to document, conserve, and create greater public awareness of it.
