Denise Cohen, former senior woman administrator and compliance director in the athletics department at the Air Force Academy, last month agreed to a $180,000 settlement of her lawsuit charging retaliation against her for complaining about the treatment of women there.

The only female administrator and civilian in the athletics department of 16, Cohen had a three-year contract starting in 1995, which was not renewed. She was hired to direct women's sports there, but was never given the opportunity. "They didn't trust me because I was a woman and a civilian, and I spoke up," she told WIHE.

"What they did is wrong," she said, and her decision to sue was a matter of standing up and doing the right thing, no matter what the consequences. "Society should stand up to the arrogance of the military, ...
