* I was considering renewing my SPORTING NEWS subscription until I read Matt Hayes' column sucking up to the monopoly commonly known as the BCS (TSN, November 24). Anyone with any college football knowledge knows Northern Illinois lost to Bowling Green and Toledo because they are good programs. It's OK if a BCS team loses one or two conference games because those opponents are in a BCS conference. That team will still go to a mega-dollar bowl. The BCS is nothing more than a monopoly.

* After reading Matt Hayes' comments about the BCS, it's a wonder non-BCS conferences even field football teams. After all, what's the point? Boy, am I glad our guys play Division I-AA, where a playoff is alive and well.
